Stochelo Rosenberg was born in a gypsy camp in Helmond, on Februari 19th, 1968. He has 4 brothers and 1 sister and was the first son of Mimer Rosenberg and Metz Grunholz. He started playing guitar at age 10, taught by his father and his uncle Wasso Grunholz, but most he learned from listening to his hero Django Reinhardt. At age 12, Stochelo won the first price on a tv concours, toghether with his nephew Nous'che Rosenberg (rhythm guitar) and Rino van Hooydonk (bassguitar).
Stochelo wrote marvelous music and grew up from a shy gypsy child to a world class artist and componist. Using a Favino guitar in the beginning, he changed to a Selmer guitar, number 504. Django played the same guitar, model number 503. Stochelo uses D'Addario silk steel strings and Galli strings, and in 1992 he received a golden guitar from Guitarist magazine, for making the acoustic guitar popular again.
Stochelo likes improvising, looks for new challenges, but always based on his first love: the music from Django Reinhardt. His favorite song is Nuages.
